{"id":6700,"date":"2025-04-02T13:09:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-02T19:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/irma.ca\/wpsite\/?p=6700"},"modified":"2025-04-02T13:11:47","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T19:11:47","slug":"2025-municipal-election-voter-information","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irma.ca\/wpsite\/2025-municipal-election-voter-information\/","title":{"rendered":"2025 Municipal Election &#8211; Voter Information"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Who Can Vote<\/h1>\n<p><strong>New for 2025<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 With the proclamation of the Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, 2024 (Bill 20), municipalities are required to maintain a Permanent Electors Register of residents who are eligible to vote. Any individual who wishes to vote on Election Day must first be registered.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Elections Alberta maintains a provincial register of electors and provides VoterLink for voters to register, update information, or verify their registration.<\/p>\n<p>You can register to vote here: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voterlink.ab.ca\/\">VoterLink<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Information required for the Permanent Electors Register will be shared between Elections Alberta and the Village of Irma as per the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) section 49. \u00a0The information collected may only be used to verify the identification of an elector when compiling or revising the Permanent Electors Register.<\/p>\n<h2>You Can Vote If:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>You are a Canadian Citizen<\/li>\n<li>You are 18+ years of age; and<\/li>\n<li>You are a resident of Irma on the date of election<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>How to Determine Residency<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>a person may be a resident of only one place at a time for the purposes of voting under this Act;\n<ul>\n<li>if a person has more than one residence in Alberta, that person shall, designate one place of residence as the person\u2019s place of residence for the purposes of this election.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>the residence of a person is the place where the person lives and sleeps and to which, when the person is absent, the person intends to return;\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>a person does not lose the person\u2019s residence by leaving the person\u2019s home for a temporary purpose;\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>if a person leaves the area with the intention of making the person\u2019s residence elsewhere, the person loses the person\u2019s residence within the area.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>a person shall designate the person\u2019s place of residence in accordance with the<br \/>\nfollowing factors in the following order of priority:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the address shown on the person\u2019s driver\u2019s licence or motor vehicle operator\u2019s licence issued by or on behalf of the Government of Alberta or an identification card issued by or on behalf of the Government of Alberta;<\/li>\n<li>the address to which the person\u2019s income tax correspondence is addressed and delivered;<\/li>\n<li>the address to which the person\u2019s mail is addressed and delivered.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Register to Vote<\/h1>\n<h2>Permanent Electors Registry<\/h2>\n<p>You will need to access <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voterlink.ab.ca\/\">VoterLink<\/a> in order to be added to the Village of Irma\u2019s Permanent Electors Registry by <strong>September 15<sup>th<\/sup>, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you cannot access the VoterLink to register online, you can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>contact Elections Alberta at 780-427-7191 or email <a href=\"mailto:info@elections.ab.ca\">info@elections.ab.ca<\/a><\/li>\n<li>fill out Form 13 \u2013 Elector Register and produce one piece of identification issued by a Canadian government, whether federal, provincial, or local, or an agency of that government, that contains a photograph.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Elector Register forms will be provided at the Voting Station, but can be filled out in advance and brought to the voting station on election day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Election Day<\/h2>\n<h4>If you are registered on the Permanent Electors Register:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>you will need to provide one piece of Government-issued photo ID that includes your full name and current address<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>If you are NOT registered on the Permanent Electors Register, you must:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>fill out<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alberta.ca\/municipal-elections-overview#jumplinks-4\"> Form 13<\/a> \u2013 Elector Register, whether it is done ahead of time or at the voting station<\/li>\n<li>validate your identity and address of residency by producing one (1) of the following:\n<ul>\n<li>one piece of Government-issued photo ID that includes your full name and current address<\/li>\n<li>one piece of identification authorized under the Election Act (s.100(2)(b)) that establishes your name and current address of residence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>ID Required to Vote<\/h3>\n<p>To vote, you must prove your identity and current address.
